Cromwell Tools required a practical way to increase the usable space within their new Bristol Hub facility, while also creating a working environment that could support storage, access, office use and day-to-day warehouse operations.
The building had the height available, so the project centred around making better use of the vertical space. A new mezzanine floor allowed Cromwell Tools to create an additional working level inside the warehouse, helping to increase capacity without taking more space from the main floor area.
Mezzanine Floor Installation
For this project, we installed a 348m² mezzanine floor with a 4.8kN/m² loading and a finished floor level of 3000mm. The mezzanine was completed with a general access staircase, industrial handrail and kickflat protection, creating a safe and practical upper level for storage use.
The mezzanine was only one part of the overall scheme. The wider project brought together shelving, pallet racking, secure mesh partitioning, office areas, staff facilities, lighting, access control, power, data, heating and air conditioning to create a complete Bristol Hub facility for Cromwell Tools.
Once the layout had been developed, project drawings were produced to coordinate the ground floor plan, mezzanine level plan, pallet racking elevation, shelving/mezzanine elevation, kitchen layout, lighting positions, power points, access control and warehouse circulation routes.
The finished result was a high-capacity warehouse and office environment, with the mezzanine floor forming the foundation for a more efficient use of the building.

Unirack Shelving
The shelving element of the project was completed by our sister company, Unirack.
Unirack shelving was installed both above and below the mezzanine floor, helping Cromwell Tools maximise the storage potential of the new structure. This created usable storage capacity across two levels, rather than relying solely on the original warehouse floor area.
The shelving was designed around various bay sizes and shelf levels, giving Cromwell Tools a flexible storage system for different product types. The project also included Superbuild pallet racking up to 6m high, providing a combined storage solution for smaller stock items and larger palletised goods.
By combining the mezzanine structure with Unirack shelving, the project made effective use of both the building footprint and the available height.
Mesh Partitioning
The secure mesh partitioning element was completed by our sister company, Industrial Partitions.
This part of the project was designed to create controlled-access areas within the warehouse while maintaining visibility, airflow and a practical working layout.
The installation included 3m high angle frame mesh partitioning to the front shutter areas, along with sliding doors, single doors and return sections to the rear fire exits. Mesh ceilings were also installed over the secure areas, forming enclosed and protected zones within the wider warehouse space.
This helped Cromwell Tools improve security and access control without closing off the warehouse environment completely.
Office Fit Out
The wider office fit out was completed by our parent company, Advanced Commercial Interiors.
As part of the new Bristol Hub facility, office areas were created within the warehouse environment to support the team working on site. The office fit out included partitioning, glazed window modules, oak veneer doors, drylining, suspended ceilings, flooring, kitchen facilities and toilets.
The mechanical and electrical package included LED lighting, power, data, access control, fire detection, air conditioning and heating, helping to turn the building into a fully functioning warehouse and office facility.
