Dalziel Two-Tier Storage Mezzanine Project

Dalziel needed to unlock significant additional space within their Manchester site without losing valuable operational floor area below. With the building height available to support raised flooring, a mezzanine solution made it possible to turn unused vertical space into practical, usable areas for storage and supporting facilities.

The Mezzanine Solution

Working in conjunction with our parent company, Advanced Commercial Interiors, The Mezzanine Company designed and installed a 631m² two-tier storage mezzanine as part of a wider warehouse and workplace improvement project. The lower tier was engineered for a loading of between 4.0 and 4.80 kN/m² and the upper tier at 2.00 kN/m², both designed to a deflection of L/200, with P6 particle board decking throughout. A Part K staircase tower, 100 linear metres of handrail and four up-and-over pallet gates were included to provide safe access and efficient loading across the new raised floors. A separate 90m² office mezzanine was also delivered as part of the scheme.

Fire Protection & Fit Out

The installation included the key compliance and fire-protection elements needed to make the space suitable for day-to-day use. This covered a fire-rated stair enclosure carried up to second-floor level, formed using a 154mm double-boarded partition system with an MF lid, FD30 fire-rated doors, a 60-minute-rated suspended ceiling and a new fire escape door and structural opening. Mechanical and electrical works completed the package, including LED and emergency lighting to the underside of the mezzanine, power, containment and associated fit-out.

The Outcome

The result gave Dalziel a substantial gain in usable storage capacity within their existing footprint, fully compliant and ready for operational use, while keeping the warehouse below fully productive throughout the build.
