When a growing business runs out of room, the answer isn’t always a bigger building. For one of our clients in Derby, the smarter (and far more cost effective) solution is to build upwards. We’re currently installing a storage mezzanine floor that will significantly increase their usable floor space, without extending the footprint of their existing unit. The mezzanine structure itself is now in place, with the next phases of the project to follow.
Making the most of unused height
At the heart of the project is a purpose-built storage mezzanine floor, engineered to make full use of the available height in the client’s warehouse. By adding a second level, we’re effectively creating a whole new floor of storage within the same four walls, an ideal way to unlock capacity that was previously just empty air overhead.
Safe access to the upper level has been designed in from the start, with a staircase, protective handrails and a pallet gate for loading and unloading goods securely from ground level.
Still to come: Unirack shelving and a fitted office
With the mezzanine structure now installed, the next stage is to fit out the space both above and below.
On top of the mezzanine, we’ll be installing our own Unirack shelving system, giving the client a large number of convenient, clearly organised locations for storing smaller items. This keeps everything accessible and easy to pick rather than lost in bulk storage down below.
Underneath, we’ll put the newly created space back to work as a dedicated office area, built using a combination of solid and glazed partitioning. The glazed sections will draw natural light into the space and keep it feeling open, while the solid partitioning provides privacy and separation from the busy warehouse around it. Alongside the office, we’ll install further Unirack shelving, giving the client even more organised storage exactly where they need it.
On track, on time and on budget
The project is well underway and on course to be completed on time and on budget, exactly what we set out to achieve on every job we take on. Once finished, the client will have a space that works far harder than it did before:
- More storage
- A proper office
And a layout built around the way they operate.
