Office Mezzanine Vs Warehouse Mezzanine: Key Differences

Office Mezzanine Vs Warehouse Mezzanine: Key Differences

Adding a mezzanine floor is a smart move for any business which wants to maximise the usable space of a commercial building.

In truth, there is a wide usage potential for a mezzanine floor depending on your operational requirements. For some businesses, they need extra room for manufacturing tasks, and for others, a mezzanine floor makes for the perfect storage solution.

Here at The Mezzanine Company, two of our key service offerings include office mezzanines and warehouse mezzanines.

Office Mezzanines: An Overview

Office mezzanines create additional workspace above ground level, without needing to expand the building footprint. Similar to other types of mezzanines, an office mezzanine is ideal to support business expansion.

Example usage purposes include admin areas, meeting rooms, board rooms or breakout spaces.

Advantages

  • Maximises vertical space in high rise buildings
  • Avoids the need for costly relocation
  • Establishes different zones within the same building
  • Fully customisable to meet the needs of the business
  • Invests in employees by upgrading their working environment

Warehouse Mezzanines: An Overview

Warehouse mezzanines are open‐plan intermediate floors which are constructed to expand industrial operations or storage space. On the whole, a major difference with a warehouse mezzanine is that it is built to withstand heavy-duty applications. In some cases, this includes being able to withstand a forklift meaning the mezzanine is built with reinforced flooring.

Some usage examples for a warehouse mezzanine include manufacturing, parts storage in manufacturing units, inventory overflow or an e-commerce order picking area.

Advantages

  • Ideal for warehouses or distribution centres which need to expand operations without relocating
  • Segregates the workflow from other areas of the building
  • Cost-effective and quick to build
  • Built for heavy-duty applications with specific customisations also available
  • Ability to change or reconfigure as the needs of the business evolve

Office Vs Warehouse Mezzanine Floor – Which Is Right For You?

Both office mezzanines and warehouse mezzanines offer convenience and cost-effectiveness in abundance. After all, they are quick to install and can be fully customised towards the needs of your operations.

However, there are also some key differences between a mezzanine which is built to house office activity and one which can provide additional warehouse space.

Office mezzanines typically consist of soft furnishings, and may also have more formalised areas where professional activity, such as meetings, can take place. The purpose of the office may also be to shield workers from any noise or hazards present on the floor below.

In contrast, a warehouse mezzanine is built to withstand industrial activity. It may contain higher loads of materials in addition to machinery or storage pallets. The features and overall finish of the installation will also lean towards more heavy-duty use. This is to ensure compliance with any applicable health and safety regulations, but is also for practicality reasons.
